Run For Justice This Saturday

The Run for Justice will be held this Saturday, November 12 in Oakhurst. The 5K run/walk is the last in the series to qualify for the Team Decatur Grand Slam Fitness Challenge.  Runners and walkers who ran or walked in three of the qualifying races and the KP Corporate Run/Walk will receive a special award in January. So far, 10 participants have completed the challenge, and we expect more after this weekend’s race. If you complete the challenge, click here for the “official” form.

Have you Registered Yet?

Have you signed up for Tour deCatur yet? I have and am quite excited- this is the first run/walk I have participated in since the 1980s! As you may guess, I will be walking the 3 miles, and will be happy to finish. As you may know, I am a yoga lady, so this is stepping out of my comfort zone. So step out of your “zone” and join us as we walk and run to support the Decatur Education Foundation. The run/walk is a qualifing event for the  Grand Slam Fitness Challenge races.

Run With the Dogs A BIG Success

Over 200 Runners "Ran with the Dogs"

Last weekend’s Run With the Dogs,  hosted by the Decatur Booster Club, was a resounding  success. (Yes, I have to say it: “It was a dog-gone success”!) Chair Bill Ainslee reports that the race was a success in both terms of participation and money raised for the high school and middle school sports programs. The race drew approximately 220 runners, a  number much higher than past years. Mr. Ainslee said that one of the contributing factors to the higher number of runners was the participation of the City’s Active Living Department and our Grand Slam Fitness Challenge. The Run with the Dogs was the first in the series.

Grand Slam Fitness Challenge

Join Team Decatur, run four selected races, and hit a “Grand Slam!”

The City of Decatur formed Team Decatur to participate in the annual KP Corporate Run/Walk which was held this past September and received the award for Most Fit City! Decatur Active Living wants to keep the city fit and has offered a new challenge to both runners and walkers.

Register for and participate in four out of six upcoming Decatur-based races in 2011, and hit a “Grand Slam”. All you have to do is run or walk in four of the following races between January and November, 2011: the Run with the Dogs – Frostbite 5K  on January 8, Tour deCatur on March 26, DRCC Take Back the Night on April 23, KP Corporate Run/Walk on September 8, the Oakhurst Arts Run on October 8th or the Run for Justice on November 12.  Then register the four races by November 30 and you will be honored in early 2012, receive a special award, and be featured in the Decatur FOCUS. Other incentives are also being planned, so start getting fit (or fitter) now and prepare for the first race in January! The KP Run/Walk Challenge is mandatory to receive the Grand Slam Fitness Challenge Award.

Didn’t get a chance to participate in Team Decatur this year and still want to join the “Team”? We have a limited number of Team Decatur t-shirts left and one can be yours for a small donation of $10. You can wear it proudly while participating in the Grand Slam Challenge!

Looking for someone to train with? Join the group of runners at FleetFeet on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm or Saturday mornings at 8 am.
