SRTS Bike Training Underway at Glennwood Academy

Safe Routes to School Bike Training started on Tuesday, September 21 at Glennwood Academy.  Cheryl  Burnette has recruited 30 volunteers to assist with training 250 fourth grade students over the next two weeks.  Students get the opportunity to learn various skills from balance, proper stopping techniques, turn signals, scanning and rules of the road.  Decatur Active Living has a fleet of bikes that are brought to the school for the training and the training is coordinated through the physical education classes.   Instructors are Trina Hallman, PE teacher and Gregory White, Interim Director Decatur Active Living.  Special thanks to Dr. Lee, principal at Glennwood Academy  for allowing this training to take place and rearranging the P. E. classes.   Leslie Stuart is the SRTS Glennwood Academy SRTS representative.  Pictured below are volunteers and Dr. Lee preparing to start the bike training on Tuesday morning.

Active Living’s Greg White in the News!

Decatur Active Living’s Greg White is not only the Champion of the Week but also featured in the September issue of bestself atlanta” where he also appears on the cover. Greg is being honored by The Champion Newspaper for his work with Southwest DeKalb High School where his son Noah attends. Greg is first vice president of the PTA and is also the voice behind the play-by-play announcements for the Southwest boys and girls basketball teams. He also devotes a great deal of time to his church, Hillcrest Church of Christ, where he serves as deacon and youth minister.

Greg’s appearance in “bestselfatlanta” is related to his work as Interim Director of Decatur Active Living. He appears in an article titled “Superheroes of Wellness”. Greg can be found riding his bicycle through the streets of Decatur heading to a meeting or checking on one of the many parks in the city.  One of the goals of Active Living is to bring families together to increase their health and wellness-related activities. Greg is a living example of that.

Congratulations to Greg!!
