Volunteer to CATCH Healthy Habits

Get Kids Moving and Eating Healthfully this summer.

Volunteer to CATCH Healthy Habits!

The CATCH Healthy Habits Program allows you to make a difference in the life of a child, in your community, and improve your health, too!  In the CATCH Healthy Habits Program, adults age 50+ teach children in grades K-5 healthy habits for a lifetime. The children and adults have a lot of fun as they learn together how to stay healthy and fit. Volunteers work together in teams, so you are never by yourself. All training and class materials are provided free of charge.

CATCH classes are one-hour long and are conducted once a week for a period of eight weeks. This summer CATCH classes will be held at several locations in the Atlanta metro area beginning the week of June 3 through the week of July 30.  Volunteer training will be held May 22 and May 23 at the Villages at Carver YMCA, in southwest Atlanta.  CATCH Healthy Habits is a wonderful way to improve your health and celebrate healthy living in your community, so join us! To volunteer or receive more information about the CATCH Healthy Habits Program, visit the CATCH Healthy Habits website www.oasisnet.org, or contact Mary Newton at ARC at 404-463-3119 or mnewton@atlantaregional.com.  CATCH Healthy Habits- It’s Contagious!

Have Fun. Make a Difference. Improve Your Health. CATCH Healthy Habits!

CATCH Healthy Habits is a program where you can help children learn the benefits of healthy eating and physical activity, and maybe pick up a healthy habit yourself. In each 8-week session, for one hour each week after school, you and other adults age 50+ will team up with children grades K-5 to encourage healthier eating and fitness.  Each class includes education about good nutrition, a healthy snack that is fun and delicious, and a half-hour of fitness activities.  You’ll learn more about nutrition and healthier food choices.  It’s a Win-Win for all!

A new CATCH class starts in March at the 4th/5th Academy in Decatur.  We’ll provide training on March 7th & 8th.  To learn more or to volunteer, contact Mary Newton, CATCH coordinator at 404-463-4554 or mnewton@atlantaregional.com.

A Very Nice Thank You

From Mary Newton, who worked with Decatur Active Living and Children and Youth Services this summer to bring the CATCH Healthy Habits Program to our city:

“Thank you” is one of the most important expressions in the world; however, sometimes, it does not always adequately convey the deep appreciation we really feel.  I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping us launch the CATCH Healthy Habits Program.  The volunteers and the children had a blast and most of all, learned a little something that they can use in their day-to-day lives for the rest of their lives.  Who could ask for more than that?

None of this would have been possible without your cooperation and support.  I look forward to working with you this fall as we expand the program.  Have and great weekend and God bless you always!

The CATCH Program paired Senior Citizen volunteers with youth through the summer camp program to teach healthy eating and exercise. Both groups benefit from the collaboration.

Thanks to Mary Newton for working with the City on this great project.

CATCH Healthy Habits Coming to Decatur

There’s still time to CATCH Healthy Habits!  Coming to the City of Decatur this summer, the program pairs teams of adults age 50+ with children in grades K-5 to learn healthy habits for a lifetime. We are recruiting volunteers to work with children at the Ebster Explorer Summer Day Camp beginning in June. The program is funded by a grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield and sponsored by the Atlanta Regional Commission. Contact Mary Newton at 404-463-4554 to learn how you can participate.
